Originally presented in 1995 in an Inglewood Church parking lot, then called the "Annual Book, Music & Art Festival". It quickly outgrew its humble beginnings and was introduced at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, in 1998, and for the last three years known as the "West Coast Educational, Cultural & Writer's Festival". The success of the event exceeded the highest expectations. There were over 10,000 patrons in attendance. With the demand for books at an all time high, the event organizers, the Cameron E. Jackson Children's Library & Malik's Book Store, knew their dreams had become a reality. The objective of the team was to expose the community to the celebration and appreciation of the written word, art and culture in a modern day community setting.
