Deadline for ESSAY/POETRY SLAM/ & BOOK MARK COMPETITION is September 29, 2008
Students are deemed eligible to participate if they are currently Southern California State residents, attend a public, private school, or home schooled and follow the guidelines as listed below. There is no entry fee.
Essay must be original and written by one student/author (sharing prize, copying information or plagiarism is not allowed).
Contestants must respond to essay topic. Partial submissions will be disqualified.
Essay may be typed (using 12-point font, double-spaced), or essays may be handwritten (illegible submissions will be disqualified). Provided forms may be used or contestant may use lined or blank paper.
Please use only one side of the paper (paper should be white and lined or unlined).
Be sure to have a designated essay coordinator, literacy coach or English teacher at your school review the essay(s) for grammatical, typographical errors and or completion of forms.

Only one essay submission is allowed per student.
Essay or poem is not to exceed two pages.
Essay or poem must be written in English.
Multiple pages must be stapled prior to submission.
Students should include their full name, school, school address, grade and age on submissions, along with the completed registration form, by the

The Cameron Eugene Jackson Children’s Library, The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center, Borders Books, Judges, staff, board of directors and officers and its affiliates are all held harmless from and against any and all claims, lawsuits, liabilities losses, damages, causes of action and expenses arising directly or indirectly with, and or connected with this essay and or submission and are released from liability of the content of any submissions
The Cameron Eugene Jackson Children’s Library organizers are not responsible for submissions that are lost or delayed in the mail.
Publicity photos or videos may be taken of participants of Essay Competition, and their submission may be reprinted for publication. Submissions given to organizers prior to September 22, 2008 may be displayed at the Cameron’s Literacy Festival, on the Web-site or on other public display entities.
Essay submissions become the property of the Cameron Eugene Jackson Children’s Library Organizers.
Students may submit a "Poetry Slam" in lieu of Essay based on same essay title(s) in their perspective grades.
Essay participant winner(s) must be present at Cameron’s Literacy Festival to receive award(s)/prizes.
